Computational thinking is part of the computer’s process of solving problems. Before a problem could be solved, a comprehensive understanding of the problem is required. This is precisely what computation thinking is all about. Computational thinking allows us to break down a complex problem into a manageable parts. There are four key techniques in computational thinking. Decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction, and algorithms. Decomposition is the process of breaking a complex problem down to smaller and more manageable parts; pattern recognition is the ability to identify similarities within and among problems; abstraction is the ability to focus on significant information only rather than irrelevant details; algorithms are step-by-step solutions and rules to be followed in order to solve the problem. This course will contain two parts geared towards enhancing the students’ computational thinking skills. The first part will emphasize understanding these concepts, and the next part will focus on applying these concepts through fun activities with Cubetto.
